Once
in our lives, we are stuck with a question that will shed us a better
perspective with life
“Forget all our lessons, but don’t
forget to live a good life”, those were the words of my psychology teacher on
the last day of class at the universities. His words keep on coming into my
head despite the fact that I have already ‘somehow’ figured what a good life is
for me. I even wrote a number of articles of what I considered a ‘good life’.
Today, I am again confronted with such thoughts and I could no longer answer it
straight.Maybe, state of having a good life is relative with the immediate conditions, ages, maturity or whatever factors that drives it. Two years ago, I define ‘good life’ as having a stable job, money to feed my stomach, time to enjoy the parties and travels, and the resources to buy me my wants. It works pretty well for some time until I reached my transition to adulthood where everything seems to change in a blink of an eye.
From getting satisfied with job security and material indulgences, I begin to
long for much deeper and bigger meaning with life. I then asked myself “So, is
this what makes a good life”. I felt ashamed to myself knowing that through
these years, I got the distorted definition of ‘a good life’ for myself.
Though that state of living life the best way is highly relative, more or less, we share the same expectations of a worth living life. I realized that good life is anchored on finding deeper meaning with our circumstances as we relate it to our family, friends, colleagues, neighbors , and the community as a whole.
In the end, you will personally determine if you are living a good life you desired for yourself. As for myself, I found that state in helping others and contributing to the best interest of humanity. Even in the simplest form of helping others, I found satisfaction and fulfillment with my life. Above all, sharing my happiness and making other people happy makes my life worth living and full of meaning.
