Today marks another milestone in my career life and I couldn’t help not to recognize the tension I am feeling within. Even though this is my 5th work experience, I still have the “first day of work” jitters. I have tons of question in my head like How do I start?, Where will I start? Will I have friends? Can I make it big this time? And thinking of all questions seems to give me an episode of panic attack.

Before I will finally pass out, I remember instant remedies to such exciting yet stressful first day at work which I used in the past five years of working from different industry:

1. BE CONFIDENT, Believe in yourself

Though this may sound a cliché, Confidence has a powerful (magical) impact on one’s aura, disposition, stance, projection, and overall perspective. Being confident shun those fears away and will help you communicate more clearly and positively to your bosses and co-employees. Confidence brings out a positive radiance that helps you tackle each job with energy.

Believing in yourself leaves you with that “I can” attitude which contributes to an effective approach in getting the job done.

2.  ASK, Read Company’s manual and policies

Never assume that you know everything or become overconfident. Though you may have prior experiences, you must consider that systems and processes vary from one company to another or from one industry to another. It is expected from you to ask and walk-through your company set-up at your first day to give you an overview of the whole company picture. Before you ruin anything else, ask the in and out of the company. It would be very helpful if you take time to read the company’s operating manual, procedures and policies. These information may be dragging to study but these will surely your anchor in times of confusions and conflicts that may arise along the way.

3. KNOW the people

It is a prerequisite for you to know your immediate reporting bosses and the people you will be interacting in the course of your employment. Introduce yourself and strike a short conversation with those people. Knowing your interfacing office-mates will make the job easier and fast since you already know who or where to get the needed information to proceed. Knowing each other also creates a sense of harmony and some level of comforts and confidence at the work place.

4.  PRAY

No matter what you do or be it the first day of your job or not always remember to seek God’s guidance and wisdom.

First day of work could be a little stressful but with the right attitude and positive disposition you will surely be just fine. Remember to always bear that purpose in your mind for with that you will never get lost along that way. So heads up, walk with confidence and nail that first day of work with a blast of positive impression!
